The first posthumous collection of selected works by the outstanding Soviet linguist Evgeny Dmitrievich Polivanov (1891–1938) — one of the brightest and most tragic figures in Russian linguistics. The book includes his key works from the 1910s–1930s on phonology, morphonology, the theory of language development, the Japanese and Uzbek languages, as well as on issues of Marrism and sociolinguistics.The edition was published 30 years after Polivanov's execution and became an act of scientific rehabilitation for the scholar.
