Tolstoy, Leo. Letters from the Caucasus to L.N. Tolstoy (Pisma s Kavkaza k L.N. Tolstomu).
Makhachkala: Association of North Caucasian Mountain Ethnographic Organizations, 1928.
14 pp., illustrations. Softcover designed by G. Arkadyev, regular format. Print run: 500 copies. Rare.

This 1928 pamphlet is an exceptionally rare bibliographic specimen published in Makhachkala during the early Soviet period of "Korenizatsiya" (indigenization), which encouraged the study of local mountain cultures. The publication compiles correspondence addressed to Leo Tolstoy from various Caucasian figures, reflecting the profound spiritual and social influence the great writer maintained over the peoples of the North Caucasus, a region that deeply inspired his own literary masterpieces like Hadji Murat and The Cossacks. The cover, a notable example of provincial early Soviet graphic design, was created by the artist G. Arkadyev. Published by the Association of North Caucasian Mountain Ethnographic Organizations in a strictly limited run of only 500 copies, this ephemeral work survived the later Stalinist repressions and the turbulent history of the Dagestan region. It is a vital document for Tolstoy scholars, Caucasian historians, and collectors of rare regional imprints from the 1920s.
