The publication is preceded by an introductory study by Andrei Vladimirovich Demkin of the Institute of Russian History, placing the register in the context of eighteen-century Russian trade historiography and comparing its data to the related customs register published in 1981. The St. Petersburg port dominated Russian external trade in the second half of the eighteenth century, handling - by Demkin's estimate - a volume of trade greater than all other Russian ports and border crossing points combined. The present register supplements the 1764 merchants' turnover register published in 1981 with a parallel breakdown of export commodity flows by goods category and merchant nationality. The responsible editor, Aleksandr Alexandrovich Preobrazhensky (1921-2003), was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and one of the principal authorities on early modern Russian economic and social history. Published in a print run of 300 copies by the in-house publishing centre of the Institute of Russian History - the lowest figure in the group and a genuinely institutional, mimeographed-era document edition. An essential reference for specialists in eighteenth-century Russian trade, the history of the St. Petersburg port, and the economic history of Imperial Russia.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44345695797290,"sku":null,"price":40.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_3419.jpg?v=1778391560","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/russias-foreign-trade-through-the-st-petersburg-port-year-1764-register-of-the-export-of-russian-goods-vneshnyaya-torgovlya-rossii-cherez-peterburgskiy-port-1996-in-russian","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
