It belongs to the Library of Adventure and Science Fiction (BPiNF), the Detgiz series that Fantlab dates from 1953-54, and to the early cloth bindings of that series with a gold-stamped ornamental frame around a vignette, popularly called the frame (ramka) design. Here the frame is gold on mustard-yellow cloth, with a blue-black woodcut-style vignette of a lone rider under dark trees and the title in a ruled panel; the spine repeats the ornament. The endpapers are a double-page pictorial scene in blue wash of a horseman at the edge of the prairie among ferns and palms. The title page names the series above a small open-book vignette and gives the abridged-translation credit. The text is illustrated by A. Ermolaev, with a line drawing of a wagon train at the opening of the prologue. The colophon records that the book was set on 24 February 1954, signed to press on 26 June 1954 and printed in 75,000 copies at the Detgiz factory in Moscow, with G. V. Malkova as responsible editor and P. I. Suvorov as art editor, and marks it for older readers. The novel remained among the best-loved adventure books of Soviet readers, and the frame-design volumes of the 1950s will interest collectors of Soviet children's and adventure literature.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":71692717818109,"sku":null,"price":50.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_6716_38fa84e4-07a9-408d-9507-c1416eb9f34e.jpg?v=1792876092","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/reid-mayne-the-headless-horseman-vsadnik-bez-golovy-illustrated-by-a-ermolaev-library-of-adventure-and-science-fiction-1954-in-russian","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
