The substantial introductory study, occupying the entire ninety-three Roman-numbered preliminary pages, is by Pavle Ingoroqva (1893-1983), the leading Georgian literary historian and textual scholar of the twentieth century, founder of the modern critical study of Old and Classical Georgian literature, and the principal modern editor of Baratashvili's text. The volume's particular collector interest, however, lies in its illustration and design, executed by Lado Gudiashvili (1896-1980), the most internationally celebrated Georgian painter of the twentieth century. Educated in Tbilisi alongside Niko Pirosmani and David Kakabadze, Gudiashvili spent the formative years 1919-1926 in Paris, exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants alongside Modigliani, Soutine, and the wider School of Paris circle, before returning to Soviet Georgia where he became the dominant figure in Georgian visual arts of the mid-twentieth century. His full-page portrait of the young Baratashvili and the elaborate ornamental title-page borders are characteristic examples of his graphic style of the late 1930s. \u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44308654555178,"sku":null,"price":80.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_2375.jpg?v=1777754854","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/nikoloz-baratashvili-poems-letters-leksebi-poema-tserilebi-introductory-study-by-pavle-ingoroqva-illustrated-by-lado-gudiashvili-1939-in-georgian","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
