Natalia Mikhailovna Filipovskaya, a Soviet architectural critic specialising in Latin America, opens with the celebrated Castro epigraph proclaiming the architects of the Revolution to be "architects of the new order and of the new world" and proceeds through chapters surveying the urban planning of Havana (with extensive coverage of the new microrayons of Habana del Este, where Soviet planning principles met Caribbean climate and materials), public housing, the building of schools and hospitals, rural workers' clubs and culture-houses, sports facilities, the reform of the university campuses, and the new agricultural settlements of Las Villas and Camagüey. The book is among the principal Soviet sources for the early architectural history of revolutionary Cuba and is illustrated throughout with crisp black-and-white photographs alongside tipped-in colour plates, documentary plans and a folding island map. Stroiizdat reserved the oblong landscape album-format for its major architectural surveys; the red-and-black typographic title-spread by V. I. Chistyakov, with monumental sans-serif lettering, ranks the volume among the more graphically confident examples of mid-1960s Soviet book design. With a print run of only 5,000 copies, distributed primarily through architectural and library channels, copies in the original cloth binding are sought after by collectors of Soviet architectural literature, Cuban political history and mid-century Soviet book design.

https://stanzararebooks.com/products/n-m-filipovskaya-architecture-of-revolutionary-cuba-arkhitektura-revolyutsionnoi-kuby-1965-in-russian
