His monographs form a connected scholarly corpus: \"Anti-Serfdom Struggle of the Gagauz and Bulgarians of Bessarabia, 1812-1820\" (1957) and \"Socio-Economic Development of Bulgarian and Gagauz Villages in Southern Bessarabia, 1808-1856\" (1970) frame the present volume, which examines the migration wave of 1828-1834 - the largest single episode of Bulgarian resettlement to imperial Russia. Following the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829, tens of thousands of Bulgarians from southeastern Bulgaria fled Ottoman rule and settled in the Budjak steppe of Southern Bessarabia (now divided between the Odessa Oblast of Ukraine and southern Moldova). Four chapters treat: the reasons and circumstances of the migration from southeastern Bulgaria to Budjak during and after the war; Russian resettlement policy under Alexander I and Nicholas I; the settlement of immigrants in Budjak (Bulgarian peasant and urban settlers, colony organization, and demographic composition); and the partial return of settlers to Bulgaria and emigration to the Danubian Principalities in 1830-1834. Two folded maps show the geographic origins of migrants in southeastern Bulgaria and their settlement locations in Budjak. The volume was produced as an export edition - the \"Printed in the Soviet Union\" stamp on the title page confirms distribution through the Soviet international book agency, indicating it was actively circulated to Bulgarian academic libraries and Slavic studies collections in Western Europe. Meshcheryuk's study remains the foundational Russian-language monograph for the history of the Bessarabian Bulgarians, a diaspora community of approximately 150,000 speakers of distinct Bulgarian dialects who retain a separate cultural identity in present-day Moldova and Ukraine.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44354488172586,"sku":null,"price":40.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_3635.jpg?v=1778697118","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/meshcheriuk-i-resettlement-of-bulgarians-to-southern-bessarabia-1828-1834-from-the-history-of-russo-bulgarian-friendly-relations-pereselenie-bolgar-v-iuzhnuiu-bessarabiiu-1965-in-russian","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
