The booklet's numbered diagrams, credited throughout to the dance instructor G. I. Belyaev, teach the tango cortez ending, the side-step croisé (promenade), and combined step-and-chassé sequences in the foxtrot-blues - Western social dances whose status in the USSR fluctuated between official disapproval as \"bourgeois\" and periodic, closely regulated tolerance at officially sanctioned venues such as resort dansings.
