The manuscript itself, known as the \"Anna\" copy after Queen Anna of Kakheti (wife of King Alexander I), who commissioned it around 1479-1495, was discovered in 1913 by the historian Ivane Javakhishvili in the family library of the Jambakur-Orbeliani house in the village of Lamiskana — the oldest surviving witness to the Kartlis Tskhovreba textual tradition, predating the better-known \"Queen Mariam\" manuscript published by Ekvtime Taqaishvili in 1906. The Anna manuscript uniquely preserves a chronicle of the reign of Lasha-Giorgi found in no other surviving copy, published here in full for the first time. The present edition, prepared by the Institute of History's Philology Department under Simon Kaukhchishvili (1901-1970), reproduces the complete text together with Javakhishvili's original 1913 study, an extensive new introduction on the manuscript's textual history, a name index, and several tipped-in photographic facsimile plates of manuscript leaves. This 1942 volume directly preceded and underpinned Kaukhchishvili's landmark two-volume critical edition of the full Kartlis Tskhovreba corpus (1955 and 1959), which remains the standard scholarly text to this day; the present wartime edition, issued in a modest run of 2,000 copies under difficult printing conditions, represents the indispensable first publication of this particular manuscript witness and a cornerstone reference for any serious library of Georgian medieval studies, Caucasian historiography, or Kartvelology.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44545432518698,"sku":null,"price":200.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_8383.jpg?v=1783507036","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/kartlis-tskhovreba-the-georgian-chronicles-the-queen-anna-manuscript-first-edition-simon-kaukhchishvili-tbilisi-1942-in-georgian-1","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
