Text block very good: clean, complete, firm paper.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first edition of Roger Grenier's best-known novel, awarded the Prix Femina in November 1972 over Simone Schwarz-Bart's \"Pluie et vent sur Telumee-Miracle.\" Grenier (1919-2017) began his career as a journalist at the Resistance-descended newspaper Combat alongside Albert Camus and Pascal Pia, and his first book appeared in 1948 in the \"Espoir\" series that Camus himself directed for Gallimard; after Camus's death in 1960, Grenier took on the editing of his collected works, including the Pleiade volumes. Entering Gallimard's reading committee in 1971, Grenier spent the following half-century as one of the house's most trusted literary advisors, a role he continued to hold into his nineties. \"Cine-roman\" itself is set in a fading neighborhood cinema of the interwar years, evoking, in the words of the original jacket copy, its perpetually malfunctioning projector, wooden seats, and unpolished staff against the backdrop of the great American films of the period; the novel proved popular enough to be adapted for French television in 1978.
