Galina Fedorovna Blagova (1929–2017) was a leading specialist in comparative-historical Turkic linguistics, the historical morphology of Chagatai, and — the central concern of the present book — the synchronic and diachronic dialectology of the southeastern Turkic-speaking zone (the Uzbek, Karakalpak, modern Uyghur and Khorezm-Oghuz dialect continuum, with comparative reference to Kipchak and Karakhanid-era materials). The volume integrates the methods of areal linguistics — developed for the Turkic field above all by N. Z. Gadzhieva, the surviving co-editor — with the historical interpretation of medieval Turkic written sources from the Karakhanid-Uyghur, Khwarezmian, Oghuz and Chagatai literary traditions, treating the case-and-number system not as a static paradigm but as a moving wave-phenomenon whose modern dialect distributions can be traced back through datable medieval texts. Its bibliographical interest is sharpened by the publishing situation: the volume is dedicated by its co-editorship to the memory of Edward Vladimirovich Sevortyan (1901–1978), the founding figure of post-war Soviet Turkology and editor of the multi-volume Etymological Dictionary of Turkic Languages, who died before its completion (the boxed border around his name on the verso of the title-page is the conventional Soviet typographical sign of posthumous editorship). With a print run of only 2,200 copies issued through the GRVL's specialist Oriental literature distribution, the volume is uncommon outside the major Turkological libraries and is consulted by historical Turkologists, dialectologists and specialists in the linguistic geography of Central Asia.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Stanza Rare Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44300730597418,"sku":null,"price":70.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0701\/6359\/5306\/files\/IMG_2163.jpg?v=1777503990","url":"https:\/\/stanzararebooks.com\/products\/g-blagova-turkic-declension-in-areal-historical-perspective-the-southeastern-region-tyurkskoe-sklonenie-v-arealno-istoricheskom-osveshchenii-1982-in-russian","provider":"Stanza Rare Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
