Composed in the 470s, the work survives from its third book onward (the first two are lost) and narrates the history of Armenia from the mid-fourth century to the first partition of Armenia between Rome and Persia in 387, a period of intense conflict between the Armenian Arsacid monarchy, the Armenian church, the nakharar nobility, and the neighbouring Roman and Sasanian powers. Alongside Movses Khorenatsi and Agathangelos, Buzand is one of the principal early Armenian historians, and his narrative, rich in oral-epic material and vivid, at times legendary, detail, is a primary source for the religious, political, and social history of Arsacid Armenia and the early Armenian church. This edition, translated and annotated by M. A. Gevorgyan and introduced by the eminent Armenologist L. S. Khachikyan, opened the landmark academic series "Monuments of Old Armenian Literature" issued by the Institute of History of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, and remains the standard Russian version of the text, of enduring interest to Armenologists, Byzantinists, and historians of the late antique Caucasus.

https://stanzararebooks.com/products/favstos-buzand-pavstos-buzandatsi-history-of-armenia-istoriya-armenii-series-monuments-of-old-armenian-literature-i-1953-first-edition-in-russian
