The volume gathers verse, prose and folklore by authors of the republic, among them D. I. Gulia, S. Ya. Chanba, B. Shinkuba, L. Kvitsinia, G. Gulia, N. Mikava, F. Kanonidi and N. Danilevskaya. Works by Abkhazian poets appear in Russian versions, some credited to Ryurik Ivnev and L. Shapiro. D. I. Gulia contributes poems and a piece on the birth of the Abkhazian theatre, and a closing section presents Abkhazian and Svan folklore, including tales, a legend of singing stones and songs. As in much Soviet publishing of 1937, several poems and songs are addressed to Stalin. Headpieces and vignettes with deer and ibex in the manner of folk ornament are by G. Gulia and A. Lazarev, and the cover carries a leaping deer in a circle. The book was set in September 1936 and signed for print on 1 March 1937, and it contains a laid-in list of corrected misprints. This copy comes from the library of the Tbilisi branch of the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute under the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), with its oval stamp, shelfmarks and inventory numbers.
