Text block very good: clean, no defects.

This is the first edition of a popular history of the Eurasian steppe by the Moscow writer and journalist Murad Eskenderovich Adzhi (a pen name), a graduate in geography of Moscow State University whose books on the Kipchak (Polovtsian) and wider Turkic past were widely read in Russia and the Turkic-speaking republics of the former USSR in the 1990s. Published by Mysl' in 1998 with funds of the "St George" ("Dzhargan") charitable foundation, it is the sequel to his "Polyn' Polovetskogo polya" and is printed in an edition of 11,000 copies. The book is divided into four parts: "Moscow stories" and drawings from the pages of chronicles; the world of the Wild Field, which Adzhi identifies with the Great Steppe; "Tengri Khan and his named son Christ", with chapters on the lost heritage and on schisms; and Desht-i-Kipchak, the "unknown country". An appendix on the cult of St George, with notes, and a bibliography close the volume. The text is richly illustrated with petroglyphs, ornaments and portraits. Adzhi argues that the Turkic peoples shaped European history, religion and technology from late antiquity; academic historians reject these claims as pseudo-historical, and the book is best understood as a document of post-Soviet Turkic-centred popular historiography and of the debate about the Eurasian steppe heritage. It was reprinted many times, which keeps its market value modest. It will interest collectors of Turkic and Eurasian studies, readers of alternative history, and researchers of post-Soviet historical culture.

https://stanzararebooks.com/products/adzhi-m-europe-turks-the-great-steppe-evropa-tyurki-velikaya-step-cover-design-by-v-a-korolkov-first-edition-1998-in-russian
